Khamenei has terminal cancer and about to die

Posted in Uncategorized by fartashphoto on November 30, 2010

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has terminal cancer and could be dead “within months,” according to a US document released by WikiLeaks and published by Britain’s Telegraph newspaper.

The memo, sent from the US consulate in Istanbul, quotes a businessman with close links to Iran’s former president Hashemi Rafsanjani as saying that Khamenei had been diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia.

“Khamenei is likely to die within a matter of months,” the August 2009 memo revealed by the whistle-blowing website, said.

At the time, Rafsanjani was mounting a campaign against the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

“As a result, Rafsanjani has stopped campaigning within the Assembly of Experts to challenge Khamenei, and now is focused on ‘letting nature take its course’,” the memo added.

“Following the Supreme Leader’s passing, Rafsanjani will try to mobilize the Assembly of Experts to appoint him as the new Supreme Leader.

Hardliner Khamenei holds ultimate power in state affairs and has been a frequent critic of US policy.

Any serious belief that Khamenei was dying would bring about a fundamental shift in diplomatic relations, the Telegraph argued.

Despite frequent rumors of being treated for cancer, the supreme leader was photographed meeting Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri last weekend.

Iran obtained advanced N-capable missiles from North Korea

Posted in Uncategorized by fartashphoto on November 29, 2010

US intelligence believes Iran has obtained advanced missiles from North Korea that could strike Europe, according to US documents divulged by WikiLeaks and cited by the New York Times.

The documents also show frustration among US diplomats who have been pressing for China to block shipments of missile parts from North Korea to Iran, Britain’s Guardian newspaper reported.

The New York Times, citing a diplomatic cable dated February 24, said “secret American intelligence assessments have concluded that Iran has obtained a cache of advanced missiles, based on a Russian design.”

Iran obtained 19 of the North Korean missiles, an improved version of Russia’s R-27, from North Korea, the cable said, and was “taking pains to master the technology in an attempt to build a new generation of missiles.”

“The North Korean version of the advanced missile, known as the BM-25, could carry a nuclear warhead,” said the newspaper, adding it had a range of up to 2,000 miles (more than 3,000 kilometers).

“If fired from Iran, that range, in theory, would let its warheads reach targets as far away as Western Europe, including Berlin. If fired northwestward, the warheads could reach Moscow,” it said, referring to other dispatches.

“The cables say that Iran not only obtained the BM-25, but also saw the advanced technology as a way to learn how to design and build a new class of more powerful engines,” said the Times.

The document said diplomats were instructed to express US concerns “at the highest level possible”.

French police seized 111 kilograms of cocaine after the massive seizure

French police seized 111 kilograms of cocaine — worth about $9.3 million — from a luxury apartment on the outskirts of Paris on Saturday.

Four people were detained in the incident — two French, one Iranian and one Venezuelan, police told CNN affiliate BFM-TV.

Paris Judiciary Police Director Christian Flaesch called the location of such a large seizure unusual.

“It’s rare, indeed, to find this in an apartment,” he said. “It’s usually in a warehouse or boats but not in apartments. You obviously need an important network to bring such a quantity to France and to have the capacity to distribute it after that.”

Video of the apartment in Neuilly-sur-Seine showed the cocaine packaged in dozens of clear plastic bags lying inside several suitcases.

Recently a massive drug seizure by Nigerian authorities yielded $9.9 million in high-grade heroin bound for Europe, Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said.

The shipment was seized in the Apapa port in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city. It was not clear when the seizure was carried out.

There may be some relations between these two incidents since Iranians are involved in both and the high-grade heroin was bound for Europe.

Nigeria charges an Iranian and three others in arms shipment case

Posted in Uncategorized by fartashphoto on November 27, 2010

An Iranian and three Nigerians have been charged with arms trafficking in connection with last month’s seizure of a large illegal arms shipment.

The charged Iranian, Azim Adhajani, is a member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and was identified as a businessman from Tehran.

Along with the Nigerian nationals, he was charged with exporting the illegal shipment to Banjul, Gambia, which began with last month’s seizure of 13 containers full of heavy weapons.

Nigeria’s secret service found rocket launchers, grenades and other explosives which were camouflaged as building material. They were seized in the Nigerian port of Lagos after being unloaded from an Iranian ship.

According to officials, eight camouflaged trucks and various pieces of military equipment were found hidden in a vehicle, but details of the shipment or operation were not immediately disclosed.

“Items include pistols, hundreds of ammunition, bullet proof jackets, military boots and other related prohibited items,” a spokesman for the Nigerian navy said. “Similarly, 8 heavy duty trucks painted in military camouflage were also impounded.”
