Iran – Belarus dirty deeds

A conference on investment opportunities in Belarus was held in Tehran.

The president of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran stated in the conference that initial agreements have been reached with the Belarusian embassy in Iran and all business firms and enterprises have been called upon to prepare a list of all sectors that the two countries can cooperate with one another.

Babak Afqahi added that Iranian traders could purchase some industrial and agricultural machines and raw material from Belarus and in return sell high quality Iranian-made goods to that country and get hold of a portion of the market there.

“The two countries must focus their trade in the field of high-tech industries, Afqahi said.

Iran has obtained four S-300 surface-to-air missile systems despite Russia’s refusal to deliver them to Tehran under a valid contract, a semiofficial Iranian news agency claimed last month.

The Fars news agency, which has ties to Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard, Iran’s most powerful military force, said: Iran received two S-300s from Belarus and two others from another unspecified source. Fars didn’t elaborate, and there was no official confirmation of the report.

Former Belarus’ leader Stanislav Shushkevich, now an opposition politician, said that Russia in the past has used Belarus as a conduit for weapons deliveries to rogue nations.

“Belarus might well have used the established “gray” schemes to deliver S-300s to Iran,” Shushkevich told The Associated Press. “The deliveries of S-300s from Belarus to Iran would have been absolutely impossible without Russia’s knowledge and sanction.”
